I have been an associate at Walker Road Chiropractic for four years. In that time I have built a family practice treating whole families, many up to 3 generations. I was not familiar with the Activator Method before coming to this clinic. I am now Advanced Proficiency rated in the Activator Method and have found it to be an amazing addition to my skill set as a Chiropractor. Patients not appropriate for more traditional adjusting methods and those seeking a gentler method have great success with the Activator Technique. It’s a great tool to have in my tool belt!
In my time here I have been trained in the Associate 5 Star Management Model. I was shown how to connect with the community, market to prospective patients, and educate them on the how, what and why of chiropractic. The program was very helpful in building communication skills, confidence, and connecting with like minded colleagues.

For my last quarter at Chiropractic School, I contacted Dr. Zane Gard to ask if I could be a precept for him since I had been impressed by his knowledge and expertise when I shadowed his clinic the previous year.
At Chiropractic School, we were taught foundations of chiropractic techniques, but we were not exposed thoroughly to the Activator method or Applied Kinesiology (AK). These were two areas that were of great interest to me, and I knew that Dr. Zane Gard had extensive knowledge in both fields. During my time at the clinic, Dr. Gard patiently took the time to thoroughly explain how the Activator method and AK worked. I noticed how his patients not only responded quickly to treatment, but how they maintained their results to reduce serious injuries in the future. They left healthier and happy as Dr. Gard would take the time to listen to their complaints and provide individual treatment plans based on their specific needs.
Dr. Gard’s help enables me to improve on my current knowledge as well as incorporate the Activator method and AK techniques into my skill set. Internship Testimonial for Dr. Zane Gard
I contacted Dr. Zane Gard at Walker Road Chiropractic out of the blue looking for a preceptor to work with for my last trimester of chiropractic school. The Portland area was attractive to both myself and my husband, and I wanted to work with a mentor who could not only teach me the ins and outs of running a practice but also how to incorporate both Activator and Applied Kinesiology in daily patient care. Dr. Gard was the perfect mentor for both of these, as he ran a very successful chiropractic practice in an area saturated with chiropractors, he was an Associate Clinical Instructor for Activator Methods, and he was incredibly proficient in Applied Kinesiology.
Dr. Gard, his wife Lourdes, and their staff welcomed me with open arms when I arrived at their practice. I gained invaluable practice management, marketing, and networking experience and learned how to effectively and efficiently utilize Activator and Applied Kinesiology in patient exams and daily patient visits.
These skills that I learned with Dr. Gard and his practice have been an incredible contribution to my success in my own practice. We have patients that travel from neighboring towns to see us rather than the chiropractors in their own town because of our unique approach to care and the success we have in improving their health with Activator and AK. I am also hopeful in becoming an Associate Clinical Instructor for Activator Methods myself, thanks to the experience I gained in both implementing Activator in patient care and assisting Dr. Gard in teaching the technique at University of Western States.
