Helping Your Body Move, Heal, and Function Naturally
Neck pain, back pain, headaches, stiffness, numbness, and limited movement may be signs that a joint or surrounding area is not functioning as well as it should.
The cause may be an old injury, an auto accident, repetitive work, prolonged sitting, physical stress, or changes that have developed gradually over time.
At Walker Road Chiropractic, every adjustment is performed with purpose. Before recommending treatment, Dr. Zane Gard evaluates how your joints, muscles, nervous system, and movement patterns are working together.
The goal is not simply to move a joint.
It is to identify where movement has become restricted and provide an adjustment selected for your body, your condition, and your comfort level.
What Is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is a precise, controlled technique used to improve movement in a joint that is not functioning normally.
When joint motion becomes restricted, nearby muscles may tighten and the body may begin changing the way it moves. These compensations can contribute to stiffness, discomfort, weakness, and reduced mobility.
An adjustment is intended to help restore healthier joint motion so your body can move more efficiently and comfortably.
Patients commonly seek chiropractic adjustments for concerns such as:
- Neck and back pain
- Headaches
- Joint stiffness
- Reduced mobility
- Muscle tension
- Limited range of motion
- Sciatica
- Postural straining
- Auto accident injuries
- Sports or work-related injuries
- Recurring discomfort during everyday movement
An evaluation is necessary to determine whether chiropractic adjustments are appropriate for your condition.
Every Adjustment Begins with an Evaluation
Dr. Gard does not begin by assuming that the area of pain is the source of the problem.
Pain is one clue. Restricted movement is another. Muscle weakness, posture, old injuries, repetitive stress, and the way your body responds during movement may also help explain what is happening.
Rather than asking only:
“Where does it hurt?”
He also asks:
“Why is your body responding this way?”
Your evaluation may include a review of your health history, orthopedic or neurological testing, movement assessments, muscle testing, and X-rays when clinically appropriate.
Dr. Gard will explain his findings and recommend the type of adjustment or treatment that best fits your needs.
Chiropractic Techniques Selected for You
No single adjustment method is right for every patient.
Dr. Gard adapts treatment based on your age, health history, condition, sensitivity, mobility, and personal comfort.
Your adjustment may include:
Activator Method®
The Activator Method uses a handheld instrument to deliver a quick, controlled adjustment to a specific area. It is often selected when a precise, gentle, instrument-assisted technique is appropriate.
Manual Chiropractic Adjustments
Manual techniques use carefully directed pressure to improve movement in a restricted joint. The amount of force and positioning are adapted to the individual patient.
Applied Kinesiology
Applied Kinesiology may be used as part of the assessment process to evaluate muscle responses and identify functional patterns that may be contributing to discomfort or limited movement.
Not every patient receives the same technique. Treatment is selected according to what Dr. Gard finds during the examination and how your body responds.
Frequently Asked Questions
Most patients experience little or no discomfort during an adjustment.
Some areas may already be tender because of inflammation, injury, or muscle tension. Dr. Gard adjusts the technique and amount of force accordingly.
Mild soreness can occasionally occur after treatment, similar to the feeling that may follow unfamiliar physical activity. This generally resolves quickly, but patients should always tell Dr. Gard about any unexpected or persistent discomfort.
Patient safety begins with appropriate screening.
Before recommending an adjustment, Dr. Gard reviews your health history, symptoms, previous injuries, and relevant medical concerns. Additional examinations or imaging may be recommended when necessary.
If an adjustment is not appropriate for a particular area or condition, Dr. Gard may modify the technique, select another form of care, or recommend further evaluation.
Treatment is always adapted to the individual rather than applying the same method to every patient.
The number and frequency of visits depend on your condition, how long the problem has been present, your health history, and how your body responds.
Some patients seek help for a recent issue. Others have injuries or movement patterns that have developed over many years.
After your examination, Dr. Gard will explain his recommendations. Your progress will be reviewed throughout care, and the plan may be adjusted as your movement, comfort, and function improve.
Walker Road Chiropractic does not rely on a predetermined treatment schedule for every patient.

Chiropractic Adjustments with a Clear Purpose
The goal of an adjustment is not simply short-term relief.
It is to help improve movement and address restrictions that may be affecting how you work, exercise, travel, sleep, or participate in daily activities.
Whether you want to return to gardening, work more comfortably, play with your children, resume a sport, or move through your day with greater confidence, treatment begins by understanding what your body needs.
