Auto Accidents
Have You Been in an Auto Accident?
Many people often feel “only a little sore” after a car crash. Because they believe that their symptoms will go away they often delay their first chiropractic visit. But these mild irritations can soon develop into limited mobility, pain and neurological symptoms. It is quite common for signs of whiplash to come on days to weeks after the initial injury.
When it comes to your health and well-being, nothing is too trivial. Receiving an assessment within a day or two of an accident allows our doctors to identify and address injuries as soon as possible. If it has been weeks to months since the accident and your symptoms are still persisting, make sure to receive care as quickly as possible to avoid irreversible damage.
With advanced certification from the Spine Research Institute of San Diego, Dr. Gard leads our team in answering your questions and offering a personalized treatment plan to help you regain or maintain your freedom. Some symptoms that can lead to lasting effects if left untreated are:
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Headaches
- Pain in the shoulder and/or between the shoulder blades
- Low-back pain
- Pain or numbness in the arm and/or hand
- Dizziness
- Difficulty concentrating or remembering
- Irritability, sleep disturbances, and/or fatigue
- Jaw pain/stiffness or teeth that feel like they aren’t fitting together correctly
Even if you’re unsure about your post-accident symptoms, call today to schedule an evaluation.
Getting Ready For Your First Appointment
Before your first visit, it is important that you file a separate Medical claim from your Vehicle claim with your Auto Insurance company. In Oregon, it is important to know that medical claims go through your own Auto Insurance PIP (Personal Injury Protection), regardless of who was at fault for the accident.
We will need:
- The name of your Auto Insurance company
- Your Medical (PIP) Claim number
- Your PIP Adjuster(s) name and phone number.
Oregon is a state that believes in taking care of its citizens. The PIP policy that all Oregon drivers must carry is where the “no fault” aspect comes into play. PIP insurance covers your own injuries up to a certain limit during the first year after the accident occurs. More information can be found under ORS 742.524.
Address Injuries Quickly to Save in the Long Run
While vehicles continue to improve their safety ratings, they have yet to design the perfect car. Injuries from collisions are still very costly to both your productivity and health. The CDC states that each year, “The cost of medical care and productivity losses associated with injuries from motor vehicle crashes exceeds $63 billion.” Receiving care as soon as possible can help keep your body from breaking down. At Walker Road Chiropractic, our team wants to help improve your life by restoring your health saving you time and money.
Every Body is Different
You and your passenger may have very different symptoms even though you were in the same accident. Our doctors gain a detailed understanding of what happened to help identify and treat your unique condition. They also consider your post-accident adaptations as it is not unusual for new symptoms to emerge as time goes on.
Target Mobility Issues and Physical Discomfort
In our office we use the state-of-the-art E-Scan™ Digital Electronic Palpation and DynaROM™ Motion surface EMG on everyone involved in a motor vehicle collision. In addition to range-of-motion observation, the MyoVision system provides us with another tool to accurately locate problem areas of heightened neuromuscular activity and true muscular spasm. Sometimes people will have “normal” range of motion after a collision, but yet they still experience pain. This tool helps locate those hard-to-find areas. We also incorporate the MyoVision Flexvision on the cervical and lumbar spine to quickly and accurately quantify any limitations or asymmetries in the range of motion of your neck and low back. This, along with years of training and experience, will allow our Doctors to accurately diagnose your condition and coordinate proper treatment.
Provide Customized Treatment
At Walker Road Chiropractic, it is our philosophy that each person receives a unique approach to identify and resolve their symptoms. Based on your needs, our doctors may prescribe x-rays, massage, or physiotherapies. Our goals are to help your body hold correct alignment and proper neuromuscular control.
In addition to these personalized treatments, our doctors advise on gentle restorative exercises and stretching to further help with healing. We will also instruct you on proper headrest and body positions for riding in the car to help curtail injury if you’re unfortunately involved in another collision.
