With summer comes adventures near and far. You may soon find yourself packing up the car with kids, pets and snacks heading towards your next destination. Sometimes driving even just a few hours can feel like a long haul on your body. So whether you’re headed to the beach, mountains or camping here are a few tips to help you feel your best once you get there.
Chiropractic Tips for Your Road Trip
- Keep your back supported. Make sure your low back is as close to the seat as possible, leaving about a two finger gap between the back of your knees and the seat. If you need more back support try a lumbar roll or a rolled up towel to place between your low back and the seat.
- Lift your hips. By tilting your seat to the right position you can support your thighs while ensuring your knees are just a little bit lower than your hips. This can help with increasing circulation as you sit.
- Recline a little. In order to put the least amount of pressure on your back as you drive, recline your seat somewhere between 100 and 110 degrees. This position will also allow you to keep your neck and head in proper alignment.
While staying aligned in the car is important don’t forget to pack lots of water and snacks to help you along. Also, take breaks when you need a moment to stretch and refuel. And after your adventure packed trip be sure to come home and make time to get a chiropractic adjustment with Dr. Simons or Dr. Gard in Beaverton, Oregon so they can help you keep doing the things you love all summer long.
